(fullview plzkthx? :3)

...36 layers later....XD

I put it in the Fanart category as it still stands as that, though their design is mine :)

right, so! This is for :iconferi-san:'s Redesign Link/Zelda contest. I had loads of fun doing this X3

Took me, on and off, the better half of two days *dies* XD
Still, it was really fun.

Constructive criticism wanted for this one, if at all possible :3 (Besides Link's arms...at times they look okay to me but at times they look too long, so yeah XD)

Oh and sorry...the background is lazy...I have to leave soon so I panicked and rushed it, since the deadline is tomorrow =P

Also, sorry about how awful Epona looks XDD!!! I tried to see how well I could draw horses without reference. Not well, apparently 8D;

Link, Epona and Zelda (c) Nintendo I think? XD
Design is mine, Kiva is mine...not that anyone would really steal them XD And not that I'd care if they did....

WARNING! HUGE HUGE HUGE EXPLANATION AHEAD. XDD;;;

Okay, basically: I got the idea originally as Death!Link, but I didn't want him to actually BE Death, because that's a little sadistic and kind of creepy XD; So I came up with this alternative.

What it means... Well, the whole story is below, but basically they've all been 'killed' by a monster from the Realm of the Dead, but instead of actually dying, they've been changed into these forms. In my eyes, Link's outfit symbolises everything dark about the world, not just evil but sad as well. Zelda's outfit symbolises everything that's bright and good and happy about the world, while Kiva (the bird) and Epona are a nice balance between the two.

The light background is the Realm of the Living, while the dark one is the Realm of the Dead.

Now for the actual story of the 'game' XD
The Legend of Zelda: The Unbalance of Life

At the beginning of the game, you’re essentially normal Link, living an ordinary life in a Hylian village. He starts around 18 years of age or so. One day, he’s out for a ride with Epona (of course Epona is there <3) and the lovely Princess Zelda, when a monster attacks him. It’s far, far too powerful, and though he has the sword given to him by Zelda, he just can’t defeat it; he is killed (it is assumed that so are Epona and Zelda).

Upon awakening, he finds that his clothes have changed, that his sword has become a scythe, and that he is alone; his surroundings appear the same, except everything looks much darker. There are also subtle differences, e.g. the trees are all dead, there are no birds – except one, a black and white dove named Kiva who flies over and (though Link at first refuses to believe that it’s a talking bird) explains that dark forces have shattered the Triforce, which was the only thing keeping the two worlds, living and dead, apart. Now monsters and once-living people from the Realm of the Dead have started appearing in the Realm of the Living, and people from the Realm of the Living have fallen asleep and woken up in the Realm of the Dead. The two worlds are starting to mingle!

(Kiva follows you throughout the game as a helper, much like Navi, Ezlo or Midna; Link is distrustful at first, but after Kiva gives him advice that saves his life, he starts to trust him a bit more.)

At certain points in the game, Link switches to the Realm of the Living, while at others, he switches back to the Realm of the Dead. Later on in the game, he will (after working hard to get it, of course) receive the Master Sword, which allows him to switch between the two at will.

Your quest throughout the game is, first and foremost: find the three pieces of the Triforce and unite them, so that the realms will separate again and the world will be at peace; and secondly, to try and balance the living and the dead – if you see any people or monsters in the wrong realm, ‘kill’ them with your Scythe (that you obtain after ‘dying’ ) to return them to the Realm of the Dead, or a simple touch with the Master Sword will return them to the Realm of the Living (before you get the Master Sword, you can just stun them with your Scythe). Doing so, like defeating normal enemies, earns you Rupees and Orbs – more Rupees than a regular enemy, because they are slightly tougher to beat, and Orbs which you can exchange in various shops throughout the game for prizes.

While travelling, Link soon runs into Epona, and later Zelda; they have both been changed, too. Epona stays with him, but Zelda leaves to try and help the world in her own way.

Near the end of the game, after fixing the Triforce (and being reunited with Zelda), Ganondorf shows up, wanting to steal it; Link tries to defeat him. If he wins, seemingly knocking Ganondorf out, after a moment of victory, Ganondorf wakes up, steals the Triforce and kidnaps Zelda.

Link must now journey to Ganondorf’s Castle, defeating a series of obstacles along the way. When he finally gets there, he sees Zelda trying to defeat Ganondorf, but being hypnotised by the Triforce and thus turning evil. Dun dun duuun! Zelda, as a boss, and she’s surprisingly tough. When Link beats her (she’s only knocked out of course), then it’s time for the big guy, Ganondorf himself (with a little time to heal in between). If you manage to defeat them both, Ganondorf dies (or vanishes, or something), Zelda goes back to normal, and Link can finally use the Triforce to set the world back to normal. He finally manages it, and everyone dead is in the Realm of the Dead, and everyone living is in the Realm of the Living – except the exhaustion has knocked him out.

When he wakes up, he is in the Hylian village where he lived, with one small problem. He has absolutely no recollection of who he is, who Zelda is, or anything that has happened. To add to that, Zelda and Epona have mysteriously disappeared from the village…

…which paves the way for a sequel, of course ^_^

Holy cheese, sorry that was so long OwO
Anyway, there it is XD

Long comment. XD

The drawing looks really good 8D. I love the hands, the composition and the colours you have chosen

I can't comment without some crit, so I hope it's useful! I would make the lines of hair (link's bangs etc) more smooth. Try moving the pen a bit faster and making it look a bit more natural. Also, the hood isn't shaded enough (and it doesn't shade the face) so it's hard to tell what it is. Great picture though 8D

HOLY CRAP AWESOMENESS <33
Constructive criticism, eh?
Weeeell, the lineart is a bit sketchy in some places (but not a lot so it doesn't affect the art much) and obviously, since you did without reference Epona looks a *bit* odd (I STILL FIND IT AMAZING YOU CAN DO THAT WITHOUT REFERENCE T_T) - but hey, you know that so whatevarrrz. XD
ALL IN ALL IT LOOKS AMAZING 8D
Luuuuvs Kiva <3

Hehe thank you 8D

Ooh, right, I knew SOMETHING was wrong with that. Thank you X3
(the lines: I have really shaky hands XD;; But I'll try 8D)
:iconsparkehrocks:
Thank you X3

Yeahh, I fail at lineart xDD;; Still C8 Thank you <3 I'll bear that in mind :3

And next time I will use a freakin' reference when I try to draw horses T_T

Oh and thank youuuu  for the fav 8DD
:iconblacklightamongstars:

Awesome double tones of white and black. Especially the bird.

Thanks! :D Yep, I was aiming for a sort of contrast thing. Apparently it worked :)
:iconwackyspongecake:
That's good work =3 I like the horse's face- although they're funny creatures, I think it's eye needs to be further up on it's head xD; - and Link's hands were done really well too. A few pointers to take note of though; look at the build of a horse, it's legs are much thinner and it's body much bulkier. I rather like how you've drawn Zelda posed on the horse, but her arms appear to be different sizes, and her right hand definitely needs some work- her palm should be flat and her fingers spreading leftish as opposed to directly forward, or at least, that's what I imagined it would be x_X. The horse's reins look pretty shaky too, try to keep the size even :)

You don't see anything suggesting Link has feet really, the cloak should suggest the shape of them/the ankles maybe? The lower ankle tends to bulge a little on both sides where there's a bone/joint.

I like how you've got a scene transition there between the two characters, really adds to it. The split pattern bird looks pretty sweet =3 The designs look really nice too, particularly the che gold chest/neckplate on Link. Cool stuff!
